We are very sad to announce that Ronald Frankel, a dedicated community member of the ASPN Foundation Board since 2017, recently passed away in his home state of Florida. Ron became involved with ASPN through his late wife, Dr. Sharon Perlman, a pediatric nephrologist in St. Petersburg who served as an ASPN Councilor and President-Elect. We were incredibly lucky that Ron stayed involved with ASPN after Sharon passed away. Ron was extremely devoted to the ASPN Foundation, contributing practical ideas and sophisticated legal advice. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Ron served as a Judge Advocate Officer in the US Army for 20 years; he dedicated his 40-year career to public service as an attorney. Among his beloved pastimes, Ron rescued Greyhounds and was part of the pet therapy program for many years at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, bringing joy to children, families, and staff. His kindness and empathy will be greatly missed, but we’re grateful for his friendship and devotion to ASPN. In lieu of flowers, Ron’s family stated that they’d prefer donations in his honor be made to the ASPN Foundation.
Contributions in his memory can be made to the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology: https://aspneph.app.neoncrm.com/forms/ronald-s-frankel
