ASPN Requests Exemption to H-1B Visa Fee

ASPN sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security requesting that the agency grant an exemption for healthcare workers from the new $100,000 fee on H-1B visa applications. As a reminder, on September 19 the President issued a proclamation that would impose a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa applicants. In our letter, we noted that H-1B visas are used by medical residents, physicians, postdoctoral researchers and graduate students each year and that limiting access to the visas will further strain the pediatric nephrology workforce. We also highlighted that the fee could limit access to healthcare in rural areas.
