SUMMARY:Kidney Genetics - Translating APOL1 Genetics to the Clinic: Guidance for Pediatric Nephrologists
DESCRIPTION:Translating APOL1 Genetics to the Clinic: Guidance for Pediatric Nephrologists \nThis talk from Dr. Rasheed Gbadegesin\, Division Head of Pediatric Nephrology at Duke University School of Medicine\, is designed to equip pediatric nephrology practitioners with the knowledge to integrate APOL1 genetics into their daily practice. Beginning with a necessary background on APOL1-mediated kidney disease\, he will address the following: evidence-based criteria for offering genetic testing to symptomatic children and the timing of screening for asymptomatic family members\, practical screening protocols (e.g.\, blood pressure and urinalysis frequency) for those with high-risk genotypes\, offer guidance on counseling low-risk patients\, and explore the management of existing hypertension\, proteinuria\, or CKD. \nSpeaker: Dr. Rasheed Gbadegesin\, Duke University School of Medicine \nYour browser does not support HTML5 video.

SUMMARY:Cardiorenal and Hypertension - GLP-1a for Pediatric Patients: How They Work\, How to Implement Them Into Clinical Care\, How to Get Them Covered
DESCRIPTION:GLP-1a for Pediatric Patients: How They Work\, How to Implement Them Into Clinical Care\, How to Get Them Covered \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGLP-1 agonists significantly reduce the risk for adverse outcomes in people with cardiovascular kidney metabolic syndrome. Pediatric nephrologists often care for adolescents who would benefit from this therapy\, but experience is limited\, and insurance coverage is challenging. Dr. Chan\, a med/peds-trained pediatric nephrologist\, will discuss the rationale and his experience prescribing GLP-1 agonists in his pediatric clinic. \nSpeaker: Melvin Chan\, MD\, University of Colorado \nYour browser does not support HTML5 video.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for you to hear about science and resources you can access from the PCENs to advance your pediatric kidney research. The virtual format allows participants to join from anywhere while engaging with the PCEN community. \nPlease REGISTER to RSVP. There is no registration fee to attend the Symposium. You can also check out our new website (www.pcennetwork.weebly.com) for updates and to learn more about the Centers! \nWhen: March 23rd\, 2026\, 10:00 am–2:40 pm ET\nWhere: Virtually via Zoom \nWe are excited to share our vision for this symposium\, including: \n\nKeynote Speakers:\n\nPinaki Sarder\, University of Florida\nTitle – AI × Molecular Insight—Bridging Every Scale\nSimone Sanna-Cherchi\, Columbia University\nTitle – Genomic Discovery in Pediatric Kidney Disease\n\n\nAbstracts: Learn about cutting edge pediatric nephrology research and explore collaborative opportunities! We are issuing a call for abstracts that is open to everyone. Please see below for submittal instructions. Submissions are due by Friday\, February 27th. All abstracts will be circulated to attendees ahead of the symposium\, and some abstracts will be chosen to talk about their research. Smaller groups will be set up to allow attendees to discuss research topics\, methods\, and best practices.\nProgress and Updates from Pilot & feasibility Awardees: One Pilot and Feasibility Program awardee from each institution will deliver a brief talk about their research and their experiences working with the Centers.\nWorkshops: We are offering two concurrent workshops about AI in research: One focused on integrative navigation and analysis of spatial omics and histology and the other on electronic health record data.\nOpen House: Ask PCEN and Core leadership about available resources and how to access them during breakout rooms and enhance your scientific pursuits. You can sign up for your top three Cores for these sessions when you register. This is a chance to ask your questions and benefit from a group discussion with leadership and your peers.\n\nPlease direct any questions about the Symposium to CHOPPCEN@chop.edu or pcen@wustl.edu. \nABSTRACT SUBMITTAL INSTRUCTIONS \nThe PCENs are issuing another call for abstracts for this year’s Symposium! In addition to our keynotes and other presentations highlighting Center resources\, we will be featuring YOUR research! \nWe are collecting information for abstract submittals with your registration here.
